About us

When you open the door at "12 rue de Madrid", near the music conservatory, you discover a workshop where the scent of varnish mingles with the fragrance of rare woods, where time seems to stand still. It is a place of calm and focus. This is where Pierre Caradot works, heir to the long tradition of French violin making...

Pierre Caradot studied in Mirecourt, trained with Etienne Vatelot, and worked with Philippe Dupuy, who passed on his workshop to him, his tools, but above all, his mindset : being dedicated to musicians. Philippe had preserved and enriched the craftsmanship of a lineage of artists and luthiers : his father Georges, a luthier; his grandfathers Maurice, a famous violinist, and the bow maker Eugène Sartory; and his ancestors the Mougenot family, luthiers in Mirecourt since 1649...

We have had the pleasure and privilege of collaborating on exceptional works: one retracing the life and career of Eugène Sartory, featuring previously unpublished documents that offer a rare glimpse into the work and world of this bow maker. Others explore the French school of bow making and Nicolas Lupot, created in collaboration with Sylvette Milliot and with the ALADFI group of luthiers.
